What a cookie is
A small file the site stores in your browser so it can recognise that browser on the next request. We also use closely related things — localStorage, and a pixel in an email — and this page covers all of them.
The four kinds we use
Strictly necessary. The site does not work without these, so they are set without asking:
- Your session and sign-in token, so you stay logged in between pages
- A CSRF token, which stops another site submitting a form as you
- Your cart and search state, so a half-finished booking survives a page reload
- A record of your cookie choices, so we do not ask again on every visit
Preferences. Your currency, language and recently viewed destinations. Harmless, and the site is worse without them.
Analytics. Which pages are visited, which searches fail, where people abandon a booking. Aggregated, and used to fix what is broken. These are optional.
Marketing. Set by advertising platforms so a holiday you looked at can be advertised to you elsewhere, and so we can tell which advertisement produced a booking. These are optional and off until you accept them.
Third parties that set cookies here
- Google — sign-in, analytics, and advertising measurement
- Our payment gateway — fraud checks and session integrity during payment. These are strictly necessary; a payment page cannot be made to work without them
- Social platforms — only on pages where their content is embedded
Each of these is governed by its own privacy policy, which we do not control.
How to refuse them
- Use the cookie banner on your first visit, or the Cookie settings link in the footer at any time. Declining non-essential cookies is a single click and we treat it as a full refusal, not a partial one.
- Your browser can block or delete cookies for this site entirely. Blocking the strictly necessary ones will break sign-in and checkout, which is a consequence and not a punishment.
- Marketing cookies can also be turned off at the source, through Google's own ad settings.
How long they last
Session cookies disappear when you close the browser. Persistent ones last between 30 days and 13 months depending on purpose; analytics identifiers expire after 26 months at the latest.
Changes
If we add a cookie to a new category we will update this page and ask for consent again where consent is needed.
